The Capabilities Approach to Health Equity

The capabilities approach (CA) is an analytical framework and ethical theory that expands our understanding of human wellbeing. It provides a critique of some dominant conceptions of human wellbeing, including those that focus on mental states − such as happiness and preference satisfaction − or on the possession and accumulation of resources such as income and commodities.
